Interesting facts about Ayurvedic Formulations

                             Ayurveda Medicines
Ayurveda medicines are prepared based on formulations given in the ancient texts. These medicines are time tested. The most powerful nutrients on earth are brought together in each formula. It is the art of taking different beneficial substances and combining them to something which is even more potent. In Ayurveda everything that is available from nature takes the form of medicines.
Every food in nature contains a mix of proteins, fats, minerals, fibres and many more. Each ingredient has unique abilities and they help our cells in different ways.By combining many herbs together we are putting together nature's secret weapons.Ayurvedic formulations are quite complicated some might even contain 30 to 40 herbs.

                                  Say NO to supplements
It might be easier to take a Vitamin pill than to prepare a bowl full of salad.
But the rich greens, vibrant yellows and deep indigoes of the plants are the keys to a healthy body.
For example when you eat a carrot you get more than just Vit A,you get a whole lot of retinols. You get the different subtypes of all these phytonutrients.Go for the combinations arranged by nature! Why tamper with nature's systems?Studies show that,if you take massive pharmaceutical dosages of VitA for a long period you might get cancer. But if you have it the natural way like eating greens, you reduce the risk of cancer. Why? because all natural foods contain ingredients which balance the harmful effects of other ingredients.
The same is the case with Ayurvedic formulations.

Thank you for your post. I was especially impressed and relieved of your review on garlic. I had to redesign my entire diet when I had met an ayurvedic practitioner who told me not to eat tomatoes and not to mix garlic or onions with yogurt or any dairy products. Your article suggest otherwise. Should I be concerned about having possible life threatening illness or severe skin reactions if I mix garlic or onions with dairy like yogurt, milk or cheese? I have lost a lot of weight and this has effected my entire diet please help clear this for me. Thank you!

    1. Hi,
Happy to know that you liked my post.In Ayurveda there are a few types of food called Virudha Ahara. This means they should not be mixed together. For example milk and chicken.
The scientific basis is that when we mix certain types of protein together, digestion becomes difficult in some people. This leads to the deposition of toxic residue called Ama,which can block channels and thus lead to skin infections and other diseases.
However the Lasuna Ksheera preparation is a way of using garlic,as described in the text.Since Garlic has Teekshna guna it can cause gastric irritation when used in the fresh form in large quantities. When we cook garlic there is a change in the properties.
When we boil it in milk ,the theekshna property of Garlic gets balanced, and thus it becomes usable by all people.Similarly when we use garlic in curries containing curd(which is different from sweet yoghurt),we are using garlic in a way that is harmless to body. The essence of Ayurveda is to use the herbs and plant products in a way that is suitable to the body. The method of usage is different for each body type.No person is entirely Vata,Pitha or Kapha. We have a combination of all three in our body, but one or two doshas will be predominant in a person. So we have to manage our diet in a way to keep the doshas in equilibrium.
